Stallion Collection Unit -
The Heritage
Coast Stud can now offer its consideable experience with Stallion
management and AI to outside customers.
The new
Stallion Collection Unit has been set up at the Valley Farm
location offering a quiet and quarantined location for outside
stallions to come for dummy training, semen collections and
semen evaluations.
The brand
new lab, with the latest technology to ensure accurate and
high quality semen preparation for distribution, is located
directly next to the collection room. This reduces damage
to the collected sample from temperature shock and light damage
ensuring the best results.
Jane Marson,
who manages the unit, qualified from Nottingham University
with a BSc degree in Animal Sciences specialising in manipulation
of reproduction in her final year. During which time she had
lab experience in semen evaluation. She later went onto become
DEFRA accredited as a recognised Equine Artificial Inseminator
(registered under her maiden name of Skepper)
After
collecting from the stud's own stallions and wanting to offer
the service to other stallions competing in the East side
of the country it was decided to develop a stand alone Stallion
Collection Unit.
Officially
the unit will be open for the 2009 season but we have already
taken in a few outside stallions this season for Dummy mare
training and collections.
We are
offering Dummy mare training, semen evaluation, semen collections
and preparations for fresh, chilled for 2008 and frozen from
2009.
