| Bishop
Burton College in East Yorkshire. Only 25 miles
from York, the college is located in ancient parkland
close to the town of Beverley. Bishop Burton College
is currently the only land-based sector college
to be awarded "Beacon of Excellence" status by the
Department for Education and Employment. The Further
Education Funding Council and the Higher Education
Funding Council have both awarded the college excellent
marks, placing it in the very top category of UK
colleges. |

Students
at Bishop Burton are encouraged to take part in
the
college's active social life. There's a college
bar, a Bistro and the Bishop's Table dining room.
Organised entertainment includes regular discos,
bands, comedians and a Christmas Ball, a Valentine's
Ball, and the Summer Ball. There's a strong emphasis
on sport at Bishop Burton, and the college teams
have achieved many successes. There's a college
shop, and an active Student Association. Support
is always available to students who need it: whether
in settling in to college life, or with the learning
process. The college library and Resource Centre
provide all the modern learning aids you'd expect
from a college of this calibre. |

What
about the equine courses? The college's Equine
Unit is a BHS Examination Centre, training up
to BHSI. Horses are taken for commercial livery
including breaking and schooling and a breeding
section operates within the unit, so there's every
opportunity to follow your equine interest whatever
it is.
The stable yard contains more than 80 horses,
there's an outdoor school and two indoor ones.
There's a cross country schooling paddock, four
cross country courses, an equine therapy laboratory,
a weighbridge (so watch all those meals at the
Bishop's Table!), solarium and treadmill. Students
take an active part in the organisation of the
many competitions organised by the Equine Department,
and you'll be encouraged to compete either your
own horse - you can bring it with you - or one
owned by the College. You
can study at any level, from part time study for
BHS exams to BTEC National Certificate, Advanced
National Certificate, National Diploma and Advanced
Diploma. Students can progress to HND and Degree
courses, too. The college's beautifully produced
prospectus will tell you more.
