ESS Issues Travel Warning to Owners
Horses & Owners at risk on the roads this summer

ESS is warning people travelling with horses to be extra vigilant this summer.

The breakdown service provider is expected to attend nearly 4000 breakdowns this summer alone.

The competition season is typically one of the busiest periods for ESS, and according to the organisation, many of the breakdowns that cause such disruption on the roads are easily avoidable.

ESS estimates that over 70% of its emergency calls are for breakdowns that could easily have been avoided with a little pre-journey preparation.

The horse rescue service has also aired its concerns over the number of poorly maintained horseboxes and trailers on the road.

ESS Operations Manager Debbie MacMorran commented,

“The vast majority of breakdowns are caused by poor maintenance such as worn tyres, oil levels and low fuel.

The competition season is always a busy time, with many people setting off without first undertaking the necessary checks. Owners should always make 4 key checks before embarking on a long journey; oil, tyres, water and fuel”.

ESS is advising all owners to perform regular maintenance checks on their horseboxes and trailers in additon to an annual service.
