Mounted Games -
Most riders start their competitive careers with some form of mounted games. Not only is it fun but a wide range of riding skills are learnt without even noticing!
The Ideal Pony
It is difficult to describe the perfect pony for mounted games but they should:-
1) Have a lively but unflappable temperament
2) Stand between 12.2hh And 13.2hh
3) Have a good head carriage, deep girth and strong quarters
4) Be alert - enjoy the games as much as the rider
5) Have agility and suppleness
6) Be obedient Undoubtedly, the smaller breeds of British Native ponies are perfectly suited to mounted games.

Training the Pony

In mounted games every second counts so careful training to produce an obedient well practiced pony will reap the rewards A pony trained to respond to neck-reining can be guided and controlled with one hand while his rider is carrying items of equipment in the other. General flat work schooling will improve suppleness, obedience and control. Us of the voice - teach your pony simple commands to work in conjunction with your legs will produce quicker responses. The pony must always be taught not to shy away from games equipment - so plenty of practice at home with home made equipment will help.

Mounted Games has a vast amount of different games ranging from precision games to speed games. There are new games being introduced all the time to be mixed in with the classics such as the Bending Race, Sack Race & Egg & Spoon Race.
