Respiratory Problems Banished by Equus Environmental

Respiratory problems in horses are unfortunately very common and the 2nd most likely reason for a vet to be called to see a horse. Unfortunately the stable environment contributes towards breathing problems. Dust from hay, feed and bedding, moulds, droppings from dust mites, endotoxin and ammonia all present a challenge to the horses’ lungs. Whilst rubber flooring, good ventilation, low dust feed and bedding help, problems still occur. Summer brings its own issues with pollens and pollutants effecting both horse and rider. No-one would expect a human athlete to live in these conditions and stay healthy and perform at their best.

Equus Environmental understands the need for a healthy, cool, clean environment inside stables without drafts or the need to seal up doors and windows.

Dr David Marlin, an expert on equine respiratory disease and air-quality who advised the FEI and the IOC on air quality, air-conditioned stabling and cooling for the Equestrian events at the Beijing Olympic Games in Hong Kong said “We know that the stable environment has a big impact on the respiratory health of horses and is often an important factor in poor health and performance”

Equus Environmental has the answer:

The system takes in outside air and filters it before bringing it into the stable without drafts. The gentle positive pressure and diffusers ensure that there are no drafts but that there is a continual supply of clean cool air, eliminating dust, smells and flies.

The systems can be fitted into permanent or temporary stabling, indoor schools, horseboxes, veterinary practices – in fact anywhere where there are horses and people and there is a requirement for cool, clean air.
