Martin Schaudt, German national dressage champion 1994 and a member of the Gold Medal winning German Dressage team at the Atlanta Olympic Games, concentrates especially on the difficulties faced by many riders and horses in the middle levels such as counter canter and the training of flying changes. This video shows not only experienced horses performing the various movements but also how the work can be done by the averagerider and inexperienced horse. 45 minutes.

Part 1 - This video covers the first seven weeks of the training of two rising four year old horses from the day they arrive at Rudolfs yard. The work centres on the first three elements of the training scale - rythym, suppleness and contact, demonstrating how quickly and confidently the horses adapt to being ridden whilst losing none of their natural movement and presence.

Part 2 - Using a variety of four year old horses Rudolf demonstrates the continuation of early training introduced in part 1 and shows work to develop impulsion, straightening and collection. The benefits of having esablished the principles of early training are evident in the way the horses accept the demands of mroe difficult exercises, whilst maintaining their motivation and enjoyment of the work.

Part 3 - Rudolf Zeilinger demonstrates lateral work with his own horses, explaining when to begin, what requirements have to be fulfilled and how the works individually with horses which vary greatly in temperament as well as training level. In this very impressive demonstration the viewer is able to see how all of Zeilingers horses achieve constantly increasing levels of elasticity, impulsion and suppleness as a result of lateral work.

Part 4 - The counter canter and flying changes are the main aspects dealt with in part 4 of this film series. The extremely successful dresage trainer Rudolf Zeilinger once again affords us the opportunity to see how he works with his horses. Learning to do the flying change, for example, is something which many horses do not find easy. He realistically shows us how even difficult horses can learn to do this lesson. Furthermore a pupil clearly demonstrates his entire cantering work up to the level of perfect half passes, canter pirouettes and flying changes from one stride to the next.

Part 5 - Collection is the magic ingredient which allows the horse's movement, with continued training to become more elevated and expressive. Even if one does not aspire to the level of Grand Prix, this video will provide invaluable help to improve the horse's movement in trot and canter.
